Portable Hard Drives Western Digital

Western Digital offers five series of portable hard drives – WD Elements Portable, WD Elements Portable SE, My Passport Essential, My Passport Essential SE, My Passport Elite, and My Passport AV. Their capacity varies between 250GB and 1TB, and they have some interesting features.

WD Elements Portable

The Western Digital Elements Portable drives, are small and easy to carry, and have great and simple design. They are also easy to use with the plug and play features of the USB interface (USB 2.0). Power is drawn directly from the usb port.

There is only on color available – the stylish black. The capacities and models are: 250GB (WDBAAR2500ABK), 320GB (WDBAAR3200ABK), and 500GB (WDBAAR5000ABK).

WD Elements Portable SE

The Western Digital Elements Portable SE (second edition) drives, are the same as the WD Elements drives, but have higher capacities. We have the same features, color, connectivity and design.

The capacities are: 500GB (WDBABV5000ABK), 640GB (WDBABV6400ABK), 750GB (WDBABV7500ABK), and 1TB (WDBABV7500ABK).

My Passport Essential

These drives are ultra portable. They are much smallee, and are available in different colors – white, black, blue, red, and gray. They also use USB 2.0 connectivity.

Some features are: password protection and hardware encryption, automatic backup, WD SmartWare, and plug and play. Here are the capacities and models of the My Passport Essential portable hard drives: 250GB (WDBAAA2500ABK), 320GB (WDBAAA3200ABK), 500GB (WDBAAA5000ABK), and 640GB (WDBAAA6400ABK).

My Passport Essential SE

The Second Edition of My Passport Essential portable hard drives is overall the same, but with higher capacities. Here we do not have other colors except black, and these drives are not marked as ultra portable (probably because they are bigger in size).

Here are the capacities and models: 750GB (WDBABM7500ABK) and 1TB (WDBABM0010BBK).

My Passport Elite

These are ultra portable elite drives. The are so far the best and have all the features of the others plus more. There are different colors (blue, red, black) and capacities. The fetures are: WD SmartWare, automatic backup, password protection and hardware encryption, capacity gauge, and USB dock.

Here are the capacities and models: 250GB (WDBAAC2500ACH), 320GB (WDBAAC3200ACH), 400GB (WDBAAC4000ACH), 500GB (WDBAAC5000ACH), and 640GB (WDBAAC6400ACH).

My Passport AV

The My Passport AV series are actually portable media drives. They are specially optimized for video storage and playback and are small and light (very portable).

You can connect a My Passport AV drive to a WD TV media player, a game console or Blu-ray Disc player.

There is only one capacity and model: 320GB (WDBABS3200ABK).
